Sep. 17th, 2006 09:35 pmSpent today supporting my husband through his first ever Triathalon in Nantwich Cheshire. It began with 16 lengths of the Uk's only remaining outdoor brine pool, which he didn't enjoy a lot as the salt water kept ending up in his mouth. Next a 20k bike ride, which was a breeze for him (Cheshire is pretty flat), and finally a 5K run. He finished in roundabout 100 mins, not bad for a 53 year old newbie. He's beginning to show me up, my own weight is nearly up to 81Kg and I didn't get down to the gym this weekend.
Being a WAG was a new experience for me - I can think of worse things to do on a sunny autumn morning.
If anybody's wondering why Nantwich has a brine pool, when it's about as far inland as you can get, the answer is SALT. The salt mines have sustained the region economically for hundreds of years. In fact the worked-out mines are used for archival storage. I believe Nantwich is quite a pretty town but we didn't get chance to look around. Maybe another day.
