Further than we've been for quite a while
Mar. 29th, 2008 04:32 pmI really had one of my best birthdays ever, and it was made special by three different families: my immediate family, my extended one, and my family of LJ friends. Thank you, everyone, for the greetings, phone calls, gifts and good wishes. All were appreciated.
My cousin and his family sent me "Anything Goes" which will be a fun read for the journey. I've already heard the CD but more juicy details and pictures can't do any harm. From my DH, two more delightful books. First, a huge guide to outstanding gardens in the Lake District, all of them close enough to visit, so that's an ambition for the summer, to get round them. He must want me to get out more because my second prezzie was BBC Coast:The Walks. We'll be doing one at least when
aibhinn comes over - Cardiff Bay. Since walking by the sea is a passion of mine, I don't think I'll be stopping there.
And my daughter gave me a bag of thoughtfully chosen toiletries for my trip next week. She also baked me a delicious cake, a complete surprise. I had lots of good wishes from friends online and a phone call from aibhinn was a real highlight - enjoy your Spring Break, and may you have better weather than we're having here.
My son is now on a flight to Calgary for a skiing trip with school. They're going up to Jasper, his second such trip (last year it was BC). I think we may have some gap year activities in Canada coming up. He'll have a wonderful time, no doubt. He's packed his laptop and chosen Donnie Darko for his inflight movie - not one I would have picked while flying, but it takes all sorts....
I can't quite believe I was unaware that DT was on the telly last night. I tried to download it but I can't make Megaupload do anything I want - is it just me? I'm glad I haven't splashed out on Premier membership. The one thing I ever downloaded on MediaFire was a dream compared to this. So I'll just watch on You Tube. I love the idea of him skewering fanfiction. Long overdue. If we write the stuff, we're fair game.
Of course, I''m really watching for The Wombats.
Well, not long to go now. With any luck DW will make the Sunday papers, so I'll pick them up at the airport tomorrow. I really don't like the latest trailer much. Enough with the "He is not a man, he is a legend" already. But I love Donna's look - in this skinny-thin age it's really nice to know you don't have to be a Size 12(UK) and under 25 to travel with the Doctor.
