10.5 in Space - story ideas

Saw "Avatar" last night with the kids. It occurred to me that very few people write about 10.5 and Rose doing anything other than staying Earthbound and chasing aliens, Torchwood style. But, assuming they don't have the means of building their own TARDIS, they'd be desperate to go into space again. So what if there was some kind of Space Program in Pete's world - the Doctor, with his specialist background, would be a great person to have on board, literally and metaphorically. But why aren't there more stories about him going into space?

And, as Avatar shows, the reasons why humans fund space exploration can be very morally compromised. What if the Doctor's longing to return to his travels persuaded him to fudge his usual high moral standards? Or he got into a mission and found himself having to go along with actions he couldn't countenance in order to get a ride back home? Where would Rose fit into all this?

I'm surprised more scenarios of this type haven't been covered in fic. Maybe we'll see it happen now there's no original Tenth Doctor in canon any more.
