I've had better days
Aug. 19th, 2010 04:06 pmMy son just missed the grades for his first choice of university. He wants to read Philosophy and the marking for the subject has been erratic in the extreme. He goes to one of the top academic schools in the country and not one candidate has been marked above a B. Apparently the same applies to at least one other leading school. There has already been a hotly contested remark of one of the AS modules.
He still has a place at his second choice so things are by no means disastrous but I do feel very helpless waiting for the phone to ring. It doesn't help that I broke my arm three days ago and it's really painful, and my husband is away tomorrow sorting out care for his elderly dad. Misfortunes come not singly but in batallions, as the Bard says.
I have had two good holidays however (walking in Devon and Shakespeare at the Globe) and I'd like to write about that but typing is too difficult right now.
