Great Minds Think Alike
Apr. 30th, 2008 06:09 pmHere is a picture that's just crying out for a caption. OMG that Hair - where will it end? I can't wait to see what the Carlisle Co-op have to say about that shot!
Non-spoilery shot from The Poison Sky
And while we're on davidtennant.com - I loved this comment from the man who is about to direct DT in Hamlet:
"And just as I was playing around with the idea I was watching TV, and David Tennant was on ‘Who do you think you Are’ on BBC1. He happened to go to a church in Northern Ireland, where they had been doing some work, and excavating the church floor. And there amongst the planks on the floor was a skull. And David, dressed in this great coat, picked it up and I thought – that’s like an audition for Hamlet. In fact, I texted him that night and said ‘I saw your audition for Hamlet ’ "
Hands up anyone who didn't think exactly that? And thank you
cheesygirl for such a prophetic caption.
Before you all comment and nitpick, I don't think that church was in Northern Ireland, but anyway.
Given that, maybe I shouldn't get too excited about the mention of DT's "temporary vacation from the TARDIS" to do the role. I'll go back to my DWM instead and see how many little Adipose I can spot.

David on the Radio Tonight
Nov. 27th, 2007 03:50 pmI know this isn't the only news today, but it might interest one or two people on my list. David is interviewing Kylie on BBC Radio 2 tonight. Starts at 10.30pm - and it'll almost certainly be on the BBC Radio 2 website for a week after.
I don't know what Ten is looking so happy about. Really, I don't.

When Fandoms Collide
Nov. 6th, 2007 04:09 pmSuddenly, David Tennant is everywhere (not that I'm complaining, mind). Including the cover of the Radio Times, again. And what a grumpy old sod Peter Davidson looks - oh dear, makes me feel old. He was my young fresh Doctor once.
Isn't it annoying though - I hardly ever watch TV and next Sunday the two things I want to see clash directly. And for once I think it'll be Tennant that gets recorded for later viewing, because I'll be glued to Daniel Radcliffe in "My Boy Jack". It was such a shock to see him, looking so young and trying so hard to be brave and grown up in an Army uniform. Made me realise that if it was 1914 now my own son might be joining up.
He's sixteen going on seventeen (like the girl in the Sound of Music). And he's so bloody young. Barely old enough to look after himself if he left home, or to remember to eat and wash his clothes. And he could have been on the front line so easily. My grandad was. Never talked about it until the day he died, and if there were photographs I never saw them.
So, having a rather unfashionable soft spot for Kipling, I'll be fascinated and ready to cry my heart out as the poor man pulls every string going to get his son into the army, only for the boy to go missing on his first day in action. And Carey Mulligan as Kipling's daughter - that will be interesting.
Good TV is like buses, you wait for ages and then three come along at once. All this, plus Children in Need. And the new soundtrack. But I'll probably not be splashing out on the new S3 box set, since there are bits of the S2 video diaries I haven't watched yet, and I picked up the vanillas for about £6.00 each anyway. Haven't watched all of those yet either.

Finally got around to watching "Blackpool" which I've had on DVD for ages. Not sure about the musical numbers, especially the ones involving DT, but it's a razor-sharp script. I felt the portrayal of the town and its character was spot on, very much as I remember from my childhood there and the various summer jobs I had in the town. It's also a very good portrayal of a marriage on the rocks.
Okay, I'm biased, but when DCI Carlisle shows up the whole thing moves up into a far more interesting gear. I can see why people see it as a trial run for the Doctor. There are similarities, such as walking the fine line between not giving a monkey's what anyone thinks of you and being barking mad, which Tennant clearly loves exploring. A lot of slobbing and eating junk food, all very in character and quite loveable really. I loved the tacky gold Blackpool Tower on his desk.
His first conversation with Natalie is a tragicomic treat. Oh, I loved this little exchange:
NATALIE (as a Samaritans volunteer) Are you depressed?
CARLISLE No, but I've only been here a couple of days.
That's just the effect Blackpool always has on me!
